The range of services offered at Built Green CT is aimed at spreading the green building movement and ensuring that every project we work or consult on yields efficient results that improve lives and decrease environmental impacts. Whether consulting on new home development or air sealing attics and crawlspaces we always look to provide efficiency improving solutions and education that helps to grow interest in green building.

Consulting and Rating Services

HERS Ratings: The Home Energy Rating System was created by the Residential Energy Services Network and is the industry standard for measuring a home’s energy efficiency. It is also a nationally recognized system for inspecting and calculating a home’s energy performance. GBCT uses this system in conjunction with energy audits to evaluate the performance of existing homes.

Home Performance with Energy Star: As a national program administered by the US department of Energy in conjunction with the US Environmental Protection Agency, the Home Performance with Energy Star (HPwES) program has helped improve in home comfort, health and efficiency with whole house solutions in over 330,000 homes since 2002. We use the program guidelines to advise on opportunities to pay less on your utility bills while increasing year-round comfort.

Energy Consulting for Builders and Contractors: Our consulting services are central to our mission to spread green building practices. Central to our consulting is to plan, build and educate. With planning we try to work green alternatives into a project wherever they are viable. When building begins, we look for materials and practices that will get the job done efficiently and contribute to a high performing and durable result. The final step is to educate. We want to ensure that we convey the benefits of green building to those with whom we consult so that they begin to incorporate the methods in future projects.

Home Performance Services

Energy Audits and Assessments: We perform assessments and audits that evaluate the performance of a home as a whole while also highlighting specific weakness that contribute to inefficiency on the whole house level. We employ blower doors, infrared scanning and other advanced assessment techniques to identify issues at their sources and provide a range of budget conscious solutions.

Insulation: Insulation is a cornerstone of home performance. A home that cannot retain its heat or cool is going to be substantially more expensive and less comfortable than a home that can. Through our energy assessments we determine areas in need of an upgrade and prescribe the proper type of insulation for the job.

Crawlspaces and Attics: This is another key area for home performance. Lack of attention to these spaces can cause leaks, drafts and moisture issues, all of which contribute to uncomfortable homes with poor indoor air quality. We evaluate these spaces and use targeted air sealing and insulation to control airflow and restrict moisture.

Heat Pumps: Heat pumps are one of the most efficient heating and cooling devices available. Air source heat pumps can heat in the winter and cool in the summer and are often a viable alternative to your furnace or central air systems. On extreme temperature days they cannot handle the full heating or cooling load, but the help a system as a whole to provide optimal comfort at a fraction of its original operating cost.
