National Green Building Pro

We are a Green Home Pro and an Accredited Verifier offering green home certifications through the National Green Building Program which was developed by the National Association of Home Builders. The main focus of the green home certification process is to ensure that a home contributes to and improves upon a healthy, efficient and sustainable lifestyle.

Our certification process is governed by the “Rigorous ICC 700 National Green Building Standard”

Per the National Green Building Standard, we are a third party verifier of green home, apartment and land development projects. There are six key areas of focus within the NGB Standard:

  1. Site Design
  2. Resource Efficiency
  3. Water Efficiency
  4. Energy Efficiency
  5. Indoor Environmental Quality
  6. Building Operation and Maintenance

A stringent focus on these six areas yields effective green buildings with these three attributes:

  1. Healthy Homes: Fresh air ventilation for increased air quality. Limit pollutants and contaminants in the home. Prevent sources of moisture which

  2. Lower Operating Costs: Reduce utility costs. Control maintenance cost through high durability. Educate occupants on proper use of the installed systems.

  3. Sustainable Lifestyle: Promote walkability. Reduce home maintenance. Preserve natural resources through low impact building and operation.

BPI Certified

The Building Performance Institute (BPI) is the nation's leading building science accreditation organization. The "house as a system" philosophy - which looks at a building's various components (building envelope, attic, basement, combustion equipment, ventilation sources) and the interrelationship between them to maximize a home's performance. This approach leads to greater energy efficiency, but perhaps more importantly to buildings that simply work better. A home that has been analyzed and upgraded from a whole-house standpoint is more durable, healthier, more comfortable, and more energy efficient. For more information about BPI's standards, take a look at their Technical Standards for Building Analysts (PDF).

RESNET Certified HERS Rater

RESNET (short for the Residential Energy Services Network), is the premier accreditation organization for home energy raters and home energy auditors in the country. With an emphasis on new construction, RESNET certified HERS Raters (HERS is short for Home Energy Rating System) to analyze each element of home that may contribute to energy waste or energy inefficiencies. During a HERS Rating, we analyze each of these components, as well as their relationship to one another, to assign the home a score from 1-100 on the HERS Index. (100 is bad, 0 is good.) HERS Ratings are a mandatory part of the certification process for many green building certifications including Energy Star and LEED.
